People from all over the world have settled in the East End for many centuries. This guided walk looks at the buildings and how they evolve, discusses people who lived here and those who live here today, their stories and much more. We discuss the poverty , the crime, the community, the challenges, the opportunities and the success stories associated with Whitechapel and Spitalfield. And how the environment has changed and potential for more change.
Our walk includes Roman, Huguenot, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim places of worship. We discuss communities who’ve settled in the area from Italy, France, Eastern Europe, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and Somalia.
We look at buildings, spaces and foods associated with these communities and organisations giving voice to different political views and protests in the area.
We also look at the amazing street art throughout the area.
There’s a chance to share stories, chat and have a coffee. We always end near friendly pubs and cafes.
