City of London

This event is for Everyone

The City of London is not only the ancient centre of our capital city but has also come to be dominated by a range of financial institutions, historic and modern. Among the ever-growing skyscrapers of the City remain a unique collection of active churches, each of exceptional architectural and historical interest, many to the designs of Sir Christopher Wren following the Great Fire of 1666. Each church has a unique voice and a story to tell, and each takes part in a wider dialogue with the group as a whole, across the Square Mile and beyond.

The Walkathon allows the 36 City Churches’ rich past, as well as their architectural and cultural heritage, to be revealed through a 7.5-mile walking tour led by guides from our practice. The route is designed to be accessible to everyone and welcomes all who seek to discover the rich conversation between these extraordinary churches.

Our full walking route covers 36 of the City Churches and will require a full day to finish. A second concise route, with fewer stops, allows visitors to join for part of the day. Both routes will be designed to be step and barrier free. We will be passing the majority of the City Churches and will select two churches that are fully accessible for internal visits. Stops will be arranged at two hourly intervals, providing resting and comfort break opportunities. Route maps will be added to our booking page a week before the event.
