The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) and the London Borough of Merton are delighted to announce the winners of the Morden Moments design competition — an initiative aimed at revitalising public spaces in Morden town centre through imaginative, inclusive, and site-specific design.
Following the judging process including of a judging panel of industry specialists , two winning teams have been selected to realise their visions for creative interventions that will brighten and activate underused areas of Morden. The chosen proposals stood out for their innovation, sensitivity to place, and potential to amplify the voices of the local community — echoing the LFA 2025 theme of ‘Voices’.
The selected designs will be installed in Morden ahead of the 2026 London Festival of Architecture and will remain in place for approximately five years — forming part of the town centre’s celebration of the 100-year anniversary of Morden Underground Station.
The winning teams are:
Studio Folk Architects and RASKL – Abbotsbury Road & Abbotsbury Circus
“We’re thrilled to have been selected to deliver our proposal for the Morden Moments design competition. Our concept celebrates the unique character of Morden Town Centre, drawing on the often-overlooked textures, patterns, and colours of the existing public realm. Morden Moments provides a valuable opportunity to help shape a more welcoming and inclusive public realm at the heart of Morden Town Centre. We look forward to working closely with Merton Council, the London Festival of Architecture, and the local community to bring the project to life.”
Andrew Kong Studio and Wayward – Station Yard
“We’re thrilled to have been selected and really excited to take on the Morden station yard site, full of untapped potential just behind the high street. Our proposal ‘Morden Pickle’ brings together several threads we’re passionate about: bold colourful placemaking, creating playful catalysts for community life, and continuing our long-term work in the Morden area.”
The winning proposals reflect Merton’s wider ambitions for a welcoming, dynamic, and sustainable town centre. As part of the design process, the selected teams will now work closely with the council, local stakeholders, and community groups to refine their ideas for implementation in 2026.
A Platform for Creativity and Collaboration
Rosa Rogina, Director of the London Festival of Architecture, said:
“We were truly inspired by the quality of submissions to Morden Moments. The winning projects reflect top quality design characteristics through their thoughtful space-specific designs, highlighting the voices of Morden’s community. We can’t wait to see these interventions come to life in the heart of the town centre.”
What’s Next
The installations will be delivered in summer 2026 to coincide with the centenary of Morden Station, as well as playing a key part in Morden’s Meanwhile Action Plan, and will help shape the area’s public realm for years to come. The initiative marks a key milestone in Merton’s journey to transform Morden into a vibrant, future-facing town centre that celebrates its past and looks towards the future.

andre kong studio with Wayward
Andre Kong Studio and Wayward form a collaborative team with a shared commitment to community engagement, sustainability, and imaginative design. Their partnership was first established through ‘Connecting Colindale: A Flight Path Folly’, commissioned by the London Festival of Architecture and Barnet Council. Originally conceived as a temporary installation, the project was so well received that it became a permanent beacon – a testament to the lasting impact of their collaboration.
Andre Kong Studio is a young London-based architecture practice that tells stories through playful and distinctive design. Rooted in sustainability, the studio’s work often uses salvaged, borrowed, or recycled materials to create joyful spaces that empower local and underrepresented communities.
Wayward brings extensive experience in community-led placemaking and a strong connection to Morden. Their House of Wayward Plants Reuse Initiative, in partnership with the National Trust at Morden Hall Park, redistributed thousands of plants and materials from RHS Chelsea Flower Show to local schools and groups. Their gifted pavilion continues to serve the community as a cherished public asset.
