The London Cancer Hub in Belmont will be in the spotlight once again when the LFA2025 rolls back into Sutton in June.

Running from 11 -25 June 2025, the festival will bring a series of events to Sutton – from planting sessions and interactive expert panels to open tours of one of Europe’s leading life science destinations. All the events will explore this year’s LFA theme, “Voices”, by celebrating the many people shaping Sutton’s future through science, community and innovation.

Building on the success of last year’s programme on Sutton High Street, the LFA2025 programme of events focuses on the transformation currently underway at the London Cancer Hub (LCH) – a globally recognised centre for oncology research and innovation. The LCH is already home to leading institutions, including the Institute of Cancer Research, the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Maggie’s, Harris Academy Sutton and the Innovation Gateway.

The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is one of the world’s most influential cancer research organisations and is ranked second in the UK for research excellence and impact. Since 2005, the ICR has discovered 21 drug candidates. This includes a prostate cancer drug, abiraterone, which has benefited hundreds of thousands of men worldwide. Additionally, the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH), the world-renowned provider of cancer care, their new Oak Cancer Centre that provides early diagnoses to 5,000 more people per year, saving lives.

It is estimated that around 25% of all cancer drugs licensed in Europe between 2000 and 2016 involved the ICR or Royal Marsden. These buildings will be open to the public at times shown on the LFA website to see into the spaces that make life-changing discoveries.

Councillor Barry Lewis, Leader of Sutton Council, said:
“The London Cancer Hub reflects Sutton’s ambition and identity – a place where innovation meets community. This June, we want people from across London and beyond to visit and see what’s possible here and be part of shaping its voice and story. We’re really excited to launch this exciting activity programme for LFA25.”

Olaide Oboh, Managing Director at Populate, commented:
“This is a moment to bring people together and amplify the voices that are already driving real change. The energy and creativity around the London Cancer Hub is growing and this programme reflects that momentum. We are proud to deliver this in partnership with Sutton Council, Socius and Aviva.”

Sophie White, Sector Head for Regeneration at Aviva Capital Partners, said:
“We are delighted to see the space activated in such an engaging way. This programme brings to life the early potential of the London Cancer Hub and reflects the shared ambition of our investment to create a world-leading life science district in Sutton.”
