London Festival of Architecture in collaboration with Architecture LGBT+ and Freehold, sponsored by Brookfield Properties and Eastern City BID, has launched an exciting design competition for a Pride Float to celebrate LGBTQIA+ architects at Pride in London 2025. Inviting architecture students, emerging designers, and professionals to create a float that amplifies LGBTQIA+ voices within the built environment.

This year’s competition is aligned with the LFA 2025 theme of ‘Voices,’ encouraging participants to explore identity, inclusion, and creativity in their designs. The winning concept will be showcased at Pride in London on July 5, 2025, providing a high-profile platform for the visibility and representation of LGBTQIA+ architects. The selected team will receive an £8,000 budget to develop and bring their design to life.

A Call for Bold and Inclusive Design

Entrants are encouraged to propose innovative and bold designs that celebrate the contributions of LGBTQIA+ architects, both past and present. In addition to reflecting the festival’s theme, designs should embrace sustainability and the principles of the circular economy, ensuring that the float is environmentally responsible. The float, which will be mounted on a 7.5-tonne dropside truck, must also integrate essential structural and safety elements, including handrails, speaker space, and weather-resistant materials.

Building on a Legacy of Representation

This competition builds on the success of previous collaborations between LFA, Architecture LGBT+, and Brookfield Properties, which have seen powerful Pride installations capture the public’s imagination. By offering a platform for creative expression, the competition reinforces a commitment to inclusivity within architecture, ensuring that LGBTQIA+ professionals are visible and celebrated.

Rosa Rogina, Director of the London Festival of Architecture, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative: “Pride in London is a moment of joy, solidarity, and activism. We are thrilled to partner with Architecture LGBT+, Freehold, and Brookfield Properties to highlight the LGBTQIA+ voices within our profession. This competition is an opportunity for architects and designers to harness the power of creativity to foster visibility, inclusion, and positive change. We look forward to seeing bold and expressive designs that celebrate the invaluable contributions of LGBTQIA+ architects to our cities.”
