London Festival of ARchitecture History - 2024 - Reimagine

Festival History | 2024

Reimagine

2024 marked the 20 years of the London Festival of Architecture, and once again engaged over a million people through 500+ events across 24 London boroughs throughout June, with a series of LFA Built Projects which trialled and tested new ideas in the public realm. This year’s programme once again demonstrated the power of the people-led nature of the Festival – a Festival made possible by the people who live, shape and truly know London, with an exceptional programme across the city, all responding to this year’s theme of ‘Reimagine’ — a theme driven by the urgency with which we need to rethink ways of designing, making, and engaging with the city and industry, at a time of climate crisis, social injustices and challenges of fire safety as well as inaccessible and unwelcoming spaces in the city.

From physical transformations of uncared for parts of the city and testing out of new ways of using the city in a more inclusive and sustainable way, to tours exploring uncovered histories of the city and people who live, work and visit it, there was a host of unique activities during the month of June.

The project aimed to bring positi...

Street Assemblies for the Square Mile

Set around the idea of reimagining alternative parliament typologies and forms, the in...

Reimagining artsdepot

With the help of Edgy Collective, Barnet Council and LFA, artsdepot set aside a day to ask their community what they should do to enliven the outside of their building. Inspired by the #LFAat20 Call to Action and research work done previously as part of LFA, around the Museums and making the road a public space, this event used LFA as a stimulus for engagement and ideas. Over 200 people came to paint on the windows and create hats in the shap...

Dalston Pavilion

Taking a starting point from the need to open up the school beyond its four brick walls and connect with surrounding communities, the project used the #LFAat20 Call to Action (CTA) to transform the adjacent car park into a temporary space for connection, conversation, and experimentation.  While the pavilion itself was the focal point of the project, the pavilion also acted as a temporary gathering space for events, people, conversations and...
