This event is for Everyone

Are you interested in exploring Roman architecture and design? Would you like to discover traces of Ancient Rome in a beautiful, Grade II* listed building in the heart of London’s West End?

Join us for a series of drop-in activities taking place throughout the day, including:
• a spotlight talk by Elizabeth Gilkey on wine-making in Ancient Rome. ‘From Vine to Vessel: Notes from a Roman Wine Cellar’ is repeated at 1.40pm, 2.40pm, and 3.40pm (duration 12 minutes)
• a building tour led by Learning & Outreach Manager Dr Michelle Johansen that reveals just how much the Victorians admired their Roman ancestors (12pm and 3pm, tour duration 30 minutes)
• a creative workshop to design a Roman Villa, taking inspiration from stunning eighteenth-century drawings of classical finds from our collections (artist Sarah Newson, drop-in all day)
• a tabletop display showcasing Roman design work through original objects and illustrations (all day)

By the end of your visit, you will know more about the built environments of our Roman ancestors, and have a greater understanding of the architectural and design obsessions that shaped their lives.
