Southwark is a borough shaped by transition — between past and future, public and private, exclusion and access. This tour, primarily aimed at young people from underrepresented background, explores shifting thresholds, examining how architecture and development dictate who belongs and whose voices endure.
Beginning at 1. JRA at 6pm, we trace Bankside’s transformation from industrial and theatrical quarters to a cultural and commercial hub, questioning how regeneration reshapes urban identity. Nearing 2. tp bennett at 7pm, we examine spaces at the intersection of heritage and reinvention, considering how histories are preserved, adapted, or erased in the city’s evolution. Crossing Great Suffolk Street, we navigate Southwark’s in-between spaces — where industry, creativity, and gentrification converge — concluding at 3. Fathom Architects at 8pm, a point of reflection on renewal, displacement, and the forces that shape the city’s future.
Who controls the city’s thresholds, and whose voices are left at the margins?
