“Everyone passed through the Fitzroy sooner or later.” Augustus John
The Junction, designed by Yaobin Wang and Zixin Ye, explain the influences behind their Fitz&Sits creation.
The Junction embodies contrast and harmony through a bench design inspired by Augustus John’s metaphor —“everyone passed through the Fitzroy sooner or later.” We reimagine this as: “everyone meets on the bench sooner or later.”
The Junction is not just a bench—it’s a space for gathering, expression, and connection, blending the past and future while embracing a sustainable vision.
The design unites squares and circles, symbolising opposition and integration. Squares, crafted from recycled glass, reclaimed plastic and concrete, collide and merge into a circle —a platform for expression, performances, and connection.
Bohemian Spirit + 'Voice'
Inspired by Fitzrovia’s bohemian spirit, we explored how it intersects with the concept of voice. Fitzrovia’s history is shaped by diverse individuals who have gathered, overlapped, and inspired one another across time—sometimes in harmony, sometimes in conflict.
Material Recycle Loop
The three recycled materials—glass, plastic, and concrete—each represent a different recycling stream: commercial waste, daily waste, and industrial waste.
The materials reflect Fitzrovia’s character:
a. Recycled glass references its vibrant creativity and glass waste.
b. Reclaimed concrete honours its industrial history.
