Students and staff from the Architecture Master’s course at the University of Westminster have co-developed a multifunctional canopy as part of the Live Projects Platform. Clitterhouse Farm serves as a beacon of local engagement, saving the heritage building from demolition and providing space for workshops, growing and social activities, encouraging and promoting a wide range of voices from the local community.
The construction is made out of CNC-cut plywood and has 7 modular bays. The folded triangulation of the canopy provides a stiff wing-like structure with translucent cutouts towards the rear giving light to the existing barn.
This Live Project offers opportunities to learn about the needs of communities gaining direct, hands-on experience in construction, enhancing skills, building confidence and working with diverse stakeholders and construction professionals. We introduce new ways of working collaboratively to serve communities with a positive impact for the many voices in society.
