Get behind-the-scenes insights into the design and development of the exhibition The Craft of Carpentry: Drawing Life from Japan’s Forests with a special guided tour led by Japan House London’s Director of Programming, Simon Wright.

During the tour, Simon explores the architectural and carpentry traditions that shape Japan’s wooden buildings. He highlights the mastery of Japanese carpenters, who have developed specialized tools and techniques to harness the individual properties of wood, creating structures of remarkable beauty and complexity – from refined teahouses to majestic temples and shrines designed to withstand wind, snow, and earthquakes. Curated by one of Japan's leading carpentry experts, the exhibition gives voice to some of Japan's master craftspeople, shedding light on over 1,000 years of a craft with nature at its core.

The talk, appropriate for all audiences, begins in front of the Gallery on Japan House London’s lower ground floor promptly at 18:00 and lasts approximately 40 minutes.
