Death & Architecture is a public discussion event for Timeless Voices, an architectural photography exhibition by Tianzhou Yang, curated by Zhimin Zhang and Noiascape. The exhibition invites dialogue on the design of spaces where we end our physical lives, and explores cemeteries as living archives.
Death and remembrance are universal experiences. Death & Architecture brings together photographer Tianzhou Yang, architect Sam Jacob, and local parish priest Father Rajiv to explore how different cultures design spaces to honour the departed and the rituals that mark the transition from one state to another. The event encourages open participation, dialogue, and a collective exploration of how end-of-life spaces might evolve in the future.
The event welcomes architects, urban planners, designers, artists, photographers, and members of the public interested in cross-cultural dialogue around the spaces and rituals of remembrance and death. Attendees will gain an understanding of how architecture, social ritual and symbolism are used to inform our relationship with mortality, memory, and loss while also giving vision to the spaces we will experience after our physical life. The talk will look at how these practices may evolve in a digital world, where the entire memory of a life can be accessed across digital networks.
