‘Blowing in the Wind’ partners an installation in the high-level arches above Brixton market with local organisations to tell the stories, new and old, that have made Brixton such a vibrant dynamic and diverse piece of the city. Giant Paper boats are suspended in the Arches above the offices of ZMA in Brixton Market, catching the light and catching your attention as they move in the breeze. They offer a playful reference to the boats that have brought so many to make a new home in London, and so much to our national culture.
At street level graphic emblems along electric lane offer QR codes to connect to an online gallery of visual stories by local photographers, curated by local organisations: the Black Cultural Archives and Photofusion, the old and the new, making a little sense of the melee that the market sometimes appears to be.
