A structure that speaks volumes without a single word. Arch Revival is a stunning stone-brick pavilion by British stone suppliers Albion Stone and Hutton Stone who have worked with Hawkins\Brown and Webb Yates. An architectural voice born from the union of material, craft, and place, Arch Revival celebrates the strength, versatility and beauty of British stone, proudly on display in Sutton’s London Cancer Hub.
Each of the pavilion's soaring hyperbolic arches—one carved from warm sandstone of Northumberland, the other from crisp Portland limestone of Dorset—gives voice to Britain’s geological heritage and the craftsmanship it inspires. The piece expresses the silent strength, resilience, and beauty of stone—a language spoken through texture, shape, and scale.
Together, the arches form a dual expression: one rooted in the earth, the other aspiring skyward. The structure becomes a dialogue between tradition and innovation, material and maker, engineering and emotion. Once installed at the London Cancer Hub, the piece will become a permanent monument to the idea that architecture itself can be a voice—resonant, enduring, and full of meaning.
British stone suppliers Albion Stone and Hutton Stone commissioned architecture practice Hawkins\Brown and engineering consultancy Webb Yates to design an ambitious pavilion consisting of a striking pair of freestanding, vaulted hyperbolic arches almost 4 metres tall. Each arch is elegantly crafted from a single layer of stone bricks measuring only 102mm thick, and showcases the variety of sizes and shapes of bricks that both companies can produce thanks to their investment in state-of-the-art machinery.
Brick from a Stone: Arch Revival will be installed permanently at The London Cancer Hub in Sutton from the end of May 2025.
