For the third year running the London Borough of Barnet is a destination borough for the LFA, and by embracing the festival in 'outer London' we open up the potential of exploring the all diversity and complexities of life in the transitional borderlands of suburbia.
Within this, the community of New Barnet is in great flux and offers the ideal backdrop for community conversations to bring together those participating in the festival (residents, stakeholders and organisers alike), as well as to showcase a town at a turning point in its history. An afternoon to kick off a series of events in New Barnet and beyond will involve community arts workshops, family-friendly outdoor entertainment, and a gateway to long-term thinking about the architecture of our borough.
Workshops on the day will include mosaic making, clay modelling and (especially for kids) jewellery making - All focusing on re-using existing materials and building connections between the local area and the themes of this year's festival. "Voices" in Barnet 2025 is about not just the different stories and lives lived across our changing borough, but about the hidden talent with our communities and the way that artists running LFA events across the month of June can work together to harness those stories and begin a new dialogue about our environment.
